Learn about becoming a Practice Educator

All student speech and language therapists are required to complete 450 hours of clinical practice in order to be eligible to graduate and register with CORU to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist. This recommendation is echoed by IASLT’s Education Board which also accredits university programmes.  IASLT and its members have a strong and consistent record of supporting student placements.  Practice educators should have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.

National Call for Speech and Language Therapy Student Placements

National Call for Speech and Language Therapy Student Placements

In response to a potential placement crisis, exacerbated by the occurrence of Covid -19, the four universities in Ireland that offer Speech and Language Therapy training collaborated to develop a new, single point of contact, nationwide structure to facilitate healthcare and educational settings to offer placements for the academic year 2020-2021. It was labelled the ‘National Placement Call’.

This will continue for 2022-2023.

  • Speech and Language Therapists wishing to offer placements to any of the universities can do so here.
