All student speech and language therapists are required to complete 450 hours of clinical practice in order to be eligible to graduate and register with CORU to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist. This recommendation is echoed by IASLT’s Education Board which also accredits university programmes. IASLT and its members have a strong and consistent record of supporting student placements. Practice educators should have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
This toolkit aims to support students' learning healthcare clinical skills through telehealth and simulation
In response to a potential placement crisis, exacerbated by the occurrence of Covid -19, the four universities in Ireland that offer Speech and Language Therapy training collaborated to develop a new, single point of contact, nationwide structure to facilitate healthcare and educational settings to offer placements for the academic year 2020-2021. It was labelled the ‘National Placement Call’.
This will continue for 2022-2023.
